Steven Hack
Broadway 1983
Steven Hack as "George"
Steven Hack putting on his makeup in 1983 (Broadway), filmed by his parents. Just to confuse the Carbucketty/Pouncival/George/Tumblebrutus question further, he says in the comments that he thinks he was playing Carbucketty this evening but this was his cat design no matter which character he was playing.
[Transcript: Hmmm. Pretty sure I was Carbucketty at that performance. That summer I’d been playing that role for a few months. Actually, John Napier gave me an individual costume designed for a cat named “George”, who originated in the London cast. The character was cut in NY, but he liked the design (which I have framed in my living room), so I got it and wore that costume, wig, and makeup whenever I played Carbucketty, Tumblebrutus, or Pouncival. I was the only one to wear that design until my successors.]
Bonus: the pleasant image evoked by this comment...
[Transcript: I don’t really remember the a/c being pumped up high. I think it was comfortable. We were sweating during the Jellicle Ball, but mostly because of the energy expended. I know all the guys I shared the dressing room with were glad to peel that costume partially off during intermission.]
