Not much else is occurring in this issue except for Team Fighters dealing with Devil Dogs while Knuckles and Thrash beat each other up in the mud. It just makes me wonder how this arc could have been if it wasn’t screwed up by a previous writer.

And speaking of which, something tells me the dialogue is channelling the team/the fan’s anger over Ken Penders’ sudden acquisition of all of his characters.

Oh never mind, my favourite Metal Sonic is here to help make this story not end in writer’s tragedy. If it seems like Shard being here is mostly sudden and unexpected...that’s because it was. He wasn’t originally planned to even be here!

Can’t wait to see how the heroes react to seeing a “good” Metal Sonic in the next issue.

At last we get an explanation regarding Thrash’s origins and his vendetta again Echidna-kind. It really worries me that those Tasmanian Devils aren’t just the wild animal-equivalent on Mobius, but are also lab experiments done by the Echidna scientists back in their heyday. It makes their previous appearances seem rather harsh in hindsight. The old Secret Service to the King used them as sniffer dogs, for goodness sake!

Regardless of all this backstory, it still paints Thrash in a weird overly-dramatic, villainous role, whereas he’s more the type that just had a lot of bad things happen to him that he just felt like screwing over Knuckles’ whole race.

We get a few pages on how the Krudzu weed found his way into Metal Knuckles’ shell to antagonise Sonic and the others.

I like how he came in a classic Crabmeat Badnik of all things, and it still has the stupidly silly charm and character writing that Mike Gallagher gave it in the old issues.
