Chriska or Gillovny?

Oh wow, I have to pick? How evil, Anon. Well, let’s see...

I don’t ship either pairing romantically, especially Chriska as both Chris and Mariska have long-term spouses (and Mariska may just have the yummiest husband in the world). But I do friend-ship them, for sure.

Obviously, both pairings have given us iconic television characters and partnerships. Both long-term friendships recently reunited to give us further installments in their will-they-won’t-they-have-they-what-the-fuck-is-happening dynamics. The best thing that can be said about these additions to what has stood as canon for so long is that chemistry doesn’t die, at least in either of these cases. There were major problems with The X Files reboot, as there are with the SVU/OC crossovers. But the magic of Chriska and the magic of Gillovny is undeniable.

I wrote nearly 40 fanfics for Bensler over 3 years so that increases my attachment to Chriska somewhat. But then, the first fic I ever wrote was an MSR one-shot (it was terrible and no one read it and I’ve lost track of it now). My love of The X Files far pre-dates my SVU days. And I think, one of the great joys of watching David and Gillian reunite recently was because we all knew they’d sometimes had a tough time of things during the show’s run. To see all that melt away into pure love and appreciation, to see them just bask in their mutual enjoyment of each other was really special.

Also both Gillian and David are a bit weird and I feel that. David’s this brooding misanthrope who lights up around Gillian and Gillian is this unpredictable goof who’s an acting powerhouse on the side. And then there’s the photoshoots. Did I mention this recent round of photoshoots for the revival? Cos, if I’m absolutely forced to choose, then they kinda put one pairing in the lead. For rather obvious reasons....
