ATL (Film 2006)
my love by justin timberlake is so matt coded i swear
When Drake announced the new album yesterday afternoon, I was excited like everybody else. When the tracklist dropped an hour or so later, I’ve noticed one of the executive producers listed was Black Coffee. And that told me a curveball was coming. And sure enough, the curveball was an album inspired by House music dedicated to Virgil Abloh.
It’s funny because every album, one of the main things that Hip Hop heads talk about is wanting Drake to make an album of nothing but him rapping. But Drake has shown since Views that he’s an overall artist and doesn’t feel like he has to prove his place in Hip Hop anymore. So while I see one side complaining and joking about his new album, I see the other side loving the album and saying they understand Drake’s vision.
There’s a few joints on there that I can see going crazy at parties this Summer, like Currents. So it’s safe to say the album is going to age better than a lot of us is expecting. We’ll see.
By the way, the only Hip Hop song on Drake’s album, 21 Savage had the best verse. A conversation will be had about 21 being one of the best rappers in this generation soon. He’s been in a zone lately, lowkey.
