Sometimes a smoke or two or three was needed. Even though he’d been doing so good at not today had been a not good day. And now he was laying back in one of the chairs on the balcony of his apartment just staring up at the night sky lighting up another cigarette. “If you’re going to try and make me put this out you can turn back around and leave me alone.”
“It’s only as awkward as we make it.” That was true for the most part but this was still pretty awkward no matter which way you looked at it. How was this his life?
“It could be a false positive right? I mean they happen.” Lydia whined, looking at the little stick.
“I could be, but ten in a row?” Luke asked, looking at the pile she had amassed. “I think it’s time you make a doctor appointment. Only way you’ll know for sure.”
That was two months ago, she’d put it off as long as she could but it was starting to show and Luke was threatening to tell Scott. She made the appointment, more to get Luke off her back than anything else. As long as she had a picture that said she wasn’t he couldn’t tell Scott there was a scare.
“There it is, your baby is about the size of a lime, three inches. It’s got fingernails and such.” The techinician said as she took several pictures of the baby that was in fact, inside Lydia. “The front desk can get you scheduled for an anatomy scan in month in a half or so. Then you can find out if it’s a boy or a girl. If there’s anything physically wrong with it.”
“What do you mean?” Lydia asked softly, there it was, she was in fact pregnant. No denying it now.
“You can’t really see many physical deformities until the anatomy scan. Then we can make sure there’s two arms, two feet, one head, one brain. You get the picture.” The technician dutifully answered as she handed over the pictures she had printed for her.
“Baby’s first picture.” Lydia mumbled, looking down at it as her finger’s ran over the image.
“Lydia?” Melissa called out, seeing her in the hallway. She turned to put a chart away and she was gone. “Or not. Hmm.”
It wasn’t so much Lydia in denial as much as it was that she was afraid Scott would leave. Why? She didn’t really get it, probably her own dad issues rearing their ugly head. Scott was a good person, a good alpha, he could be a good dad. They were so young though still. They were all still figuring everything out.
It’d been two weeks and Luke was having no more. He couldn’t lie to Scott about Lydia’s distance anymore and if his plan worked, he wouldn’t have to. She would tell Scott tonight at the party if it was the last thing he did and she killed him for it. Scott deserved to know he was going to be a dad whether or not Lydia was having dad issues of her own.
They were at the counter, putting carrots and ranch on a platter when the door opened. “Oh my gosh Scott, what are you doing here?” Luke asked, his voice a dead give away that he was setting them up. “Stiles backyard.” He glared ordering his boyfriend outside. Ultimately pulling him to the pool and forcing Lydia and Scott to talk.
“I don’t see what the big deal is.” Stiles mumbled as Luke shut the backdoor.
“You wouldn’t.” Luke muttered, shooing everyone away from the door.
“Hey Lyds.” Scott sighed as he walked up trying to play it cool. “How are you-“
“I’m pregnant.” She blurted, there really was no graceful way with all the build up. She worriedly chewed her lower lip as she waited for him to say something, anything. “Um, Scott?”
“Uhhh, yeah? You’re, so, you, and, I. We, um, so you aren’t mad at me over something?” He asked, breathing a huge sigh of relief.
“Did you not just hear what I said? I’m pregnant, it’s yours.” She huffed, grabbing one of the ultra sound pictures from her purse.
“I heard you but I thought you were mad at me for something. You don’t seem mad now that you told me.” Scott replied, leaning over the counter to look at the picture. “So we’re having a baby?”
“I’m not happy and I’m not mad, I’m just numb I guess. And no, we’re not having a baby. I am having a baby. You can be in the picture if you want, if not I’ll be fine. My mom survived I can too.” Lydia sighed, mumbling her mini rant.
She was so caught up in her mumbles and the carrots that she didn’t see Scott walking around the counter and wrapping his arms around her until it was too late. Kissing the crook of her neck. “Of course I’m going to be in the picture. God I thought you were breaking up with me. This is a huge weight off my shoulders. I mean, yes kids are scary but I mean. Look at all we’ve taken on already and beat. We can handle a kid.” He assured her as Stiles walked back in. “Hey, did you hear? We’re having a baby.” Scott called out excitedly.
“Good for you?” Stiles shrugged, heading down the hall way to the bath room, he couldn’t care less. Kids were certainly something not in his future.
“Knock knock.” Luke said from the door as he peeked in, “You good?”
Lydia looked over her shoulder at Scott, he took the news like the amazing person she knew he was. There was no doubt in her mind that he’d be an amazing dad and if he was willing to try she was going to do it with him. “Yeah, we’re good.” She sighed, nodding and smiling a real smile for the first time in weeks.
Caleb is 5. He's just old enough to understand that some of his friend's parents are separating. His parents fight but even when his daddy goes away mommy always makes sure to tell him daddy's coming back. "Daddy do you love mommy?"
Keegan picked Caleb up and swung him around before settling him on his hip. "Course I love your mommy. I'm here ain't I? Giving her a girls day with aunt Allison and aunt Kira." It was a worn out joke but one that made Caleb giggle non the less. Even if he didn't fully understand it.
"Are you and mommy married?"
That made his daddy frown. He took so long to answer Caleb thought maybe he wouldn't. His daddy did that sometimes. "No we're not. That doesn't mean I don't love her and you. I love you two very much."
"But she calls you her husband and and you told my teacher she was your wife."
Keegan sighed, his daddy looked really tired all the sudden. "Hey bud, you wanna go visit Grandpa Stilinski?"
"Yeah!!"
A few days later Caleb was really confused as his dad dressed up in a suit his mom said was /only/ for special occasions and watched as his dad finished putting something in the oven.
"Hey bub mind getting the door. Don't forget to ask for it is first."
"K!" Caleb bound over to the door and went to open it before remembering he was supposed to ask. "Who is it?"
"Batman and Robin." Came the reply.
"Uncle Stiles!!!!" Caleb yanked open the door and barreled into his uncle's legs, hugging them like his life depended on it.
"Hey how's my favorite crime fighter?"
"Good! Daddy's making me wear stuffy clothes. Mommy's gonna get maaaaad."
Stiles snorted out a laugh as Grandpa Stilinski bent down to pick up Caleb. "Well if she gets mad at him she'll have to get mad at all of us, won't she?" The retired sheriff winked and walked in, greeting Keegan warmly. There had been a time when things had been strained between them. Between all of them but Keegan had changed his mind and the minds of the pack over the years. He was just as much pack as the boy in his arms. "It looks like we're the last to arrive." He observed taking in the rest of the pack with a fond smile.
Allison and Cora discussing a new fitness trend while Kira and Malia grinned and chose the music. Scott was leaning against the wall leading into the kitchen where Keegan and Melissa's voices were coming from.
Derek walked out a second later, nodding at them before Caleb wiggled out of hid arms and ran over to the eldest Hale. "Dead duck Alice duck!" He demanded and without hesitation Derek scooped the boy up and proceeded to play the game.
It wasn't even 15 minutes later that Lydia was walking in. Everyone tucked away out of sight as Caleb did his job and ran up to hug her the second she walked in before handing her an envelope. While she read Keegan got ready. She looked up from the card, hand coming to cover get mouth with a gasp.
"It's a few year's late, but would you do the honor of-" "Yes!" "Only gonna ever say it once. Sure you don't want me to finish that sentence?"

“You’re on enemy lands, and you expected to be welcomed with open arms?”
The half breed looked around, did he take a wrong turn, very likely, was he positive, not so much. The ground felt familiar, he could feel the familiarity of the magic in it. “Sorry, I suppose I got a bit turned around. This isn’t the um, you know what. Maybe just uh, can you tell me where I am so I can get to where I should be.” He said, a spell at his finger tips to push her back if she charged him.
