Martin with Tourette’s....please, sir, tell me more

DISCLAIMER: I don’t have Tourette’s, but have done some clinical research as well as read and watched folks with Tourette’s talk about their experiences. So if I get anything wrong here, or misrepresent something, please let me know and I will fix it!!

Here’s some preliminary, not-full-fledged thoughts:

I think (like most folks) Martin was diagnosed as a kid

His mum found his tics annoying, and so did other kids at school--all around a bad and non-supportive situation for him

I think by the time he gets older, a lot of his vocal tics have faded, but some other ones have taken their place--I’m thinking patterned blinking, head/neck twitching, shoulder shrugging are his most common tics.

When he gets anxious, his tics get worse, and that’s when some of his more uncommon/complex tics come out. Possibly some more self-injurious types of tics, and hand spasming, which makes him drop or throw things and worsens his anxiety in a cyclical sort of way

I think Jon (being a pretty oblivious person) did not realize that Martin had Tourette’s until Martin was really anxious while talking to him in his office one day, and held back from ticcing as long as possible, but ended up throwing something at the wall

Of course leading him into apologizing profusely and explaining what had happened

Martin steadily becomes more and more comfortable with ticcing in front of Jon as he realizes that Jon never seems to find it annoying, and will only laugh with him about it if Martin is laughing himself

I think the safehouse period is a mix between very relaxing and very anxiety inducing, and that’s when Jon finds out about his anxiety-induced self-injurious tics while he’s trying to chop some onions

Later, when the apocalypse is reversed and they’re happily married, I think they have a rule that Jon should do the chopping whenever Martin is feeling anxious, just to avoid causing himself harm

hmm...no. i beg to differ. i think this is the most common misconception people have about love. speaking as someone who also shares this 'love' for the same entity. when you love someone, you want them to be happy, be it at the expense of it not being with you. the need to act all crazy possessive and jealous comes from a place of ownership, not love, it's more like a you see someone you think you love as an object, a commodity that you dont want to share for your selfish gain.
