Still Flyin' - Travelin' Man
Just watched the Firefly SDCC Panel... And caught emotions.
There's times when, especially lately when it's been over 90 degrees with 50% humidity, that I hate having to wear long sleeves because my job doesn't allow tattoos and I get frustrated (and bouts of heat stroke) and think hm, maybe tattoos on my arm wasn't the best idea...
And there's some awkward times having to explain what they mean and the simpler version of saying "it's from a TV show" makes people look at me strangely for some reason, even when I know explaining it for real would make them look at me even weirder when I inevitably stop to breathe an hour later after waxing poetically and fangirling like a loon...
But then I watch stuff like the Firefly 10th Anniversary Panel and I see/hear the insane crowd getting excited over something that happened over a decade ago, and watch Nathan with his tissues and silly faces, and Adam and his hat, and Joss says something hilarious and somehow moving at the same time in only the way he can...
And I remember just how fucking much I love all of Joss' work in TV, film, comics, and general life, but especially how much I love(d) Firefly. How much I laugh now remembering my Dad telling me that I should watch this new show even though we could never figure out when it was airing and how he bought the DVDs when they came out immediately, and how my whole group of friends got so into it and it was a bonding thing between us and how involved I was on the internet -- and this was pre-tumblr days, mind you -- with geocities sites and yahoo groups and ugh, even myspace! And how I made friends online just because they were Browncoats like me and how we went to meet some of them and it was THE most random selection of people to ever gather possibly and how we petitioned and bitched and moaned to anyone who would sit still for a minute to listen about this show that got unjustly cancelled and how we LOATHED Fox and all it stood for and how it got made into a movie and we went to at least three prescreenings, in costumes, and watched a rough cut of the movie without effects or music or credits and how we got new people into it by bringing them to the movie and how I drove possibly 300-325 miles in ONE night to get all my friends together and drive through three states to see a prescreening AGAIN and on Joss' birthday no less so of course I had to make a big laminated poster to have everyone at the screening sign and mailed it out and how they did that at all the screenings that were on June 23rd and the people at the LA one got to give it to him in person even and I think of all the times over the years that I've made people watched it or had marathon parties with established Browncoats and gone to the Equality Now CSTS screenings in theatres around Joss' birthday, in full costume, and sang along with a room full of people in silly orange hats...
And I sit here, still tearing up and full of emotions, and I only wish that my Joss-themed tattoo sleeve was complete so my insane devotion could be MORE obvious. XD
