Origin turned her head, nostrils flaring at this unexpected scent. It had been many years since she'd seen a human up close, she kept her distance from the new park and they rarely ventured this far out. Stepping around the trees she scanned the forest until the stranger came into view, her eyes narrowing as she tilted her head curiously. She adjusted her posture, flexing her killing claw as she watched them before pulling her lips back, a hiss rising in her throat as she stepped closer.
There was a shuffle as Owen tenses. His emerald green eyes flickering between the hissing raptor and the tranquilizer rifle he foolishly dropped beside him. He carefully bends his knees, still standing his ground as his other hand slowly reaches for discarded rifle. His mind races for possibilities, outcomes and solutions; knowing that this raptor had caught him by surprise.
He should've known. She was cunning. Very intelligent. She avoided every camouflaged trap they set up, tricked them off her trail and never visited any place twice. She knew what they were trying to do and it frustrated Owen to no end. The female wasn't dumb; she had experience, she was a mature vicious warrior with sharp observance of everything around her. Nothing could surprise her. And for the first time in a indefinitely period, Owen didn't know what to expect. She was created differently than his raptors, she was older, smarter and calculating. But no way was Owen going to back down now.
If he backed down, the female was going to lunge to kill him and that may lead to grimmer circumstances with either of them dead. He had to keep her there, to make enough time for his partner Barry, hidden in the foliage behind the raptor, to tranquilize the velociraptor with success.
"Ho there.." It was low yet strong. He needed more time, either for him to grab his rifle or for his friend Barry to shoot. But so many things could go wrong, after all they were dealing with a wild, dangerous animal.
