Kitty Pryde was no expert at this whole âmutantâ thing. It was nearly a few weeks since she came to the X-men mansion and she still couldnât this whole phasing power to actually work in her favor. And it didnât help that everyone around her was telling her, it takes time to control your power, or ( her absolute favorite ), itâs not as easy as it looks. Kitty could roll her eyes at the end of that one when the boy who was younger than her figured how to control his flying ability the day after he got to x-men mansion. So Kitty tried, tried, and tried again to control her powers.Â
But her powers had a mind of their own and it annoyed her to her wits end. When she wanted to go through a wall, her powers decided not to work for her, resulting in a lot of headaches. But when she leaned against a wall, with the intention of staying there, she phased through the wall and she found herself half in one room and half in another. The poor girl in the dorm next to her learned this the hard way when Kitty phased through the wall by accident and ruining her painting. Kitty couldnât the grease paint out for days in her curly hair, people thinking that she dyed her hair in blue, pink, and green. It was safe to say that Kitty had any control of her powers.Â
So when the boy in her class, who liked to light people on fire with his abilities, challenged her and bet with the other boys in the class that she couldnât do anything right, naturally she had to prove him wrong. Now, as she prepared herself to go through the wall, the boys behind her snickering, she silently prayed not to face plant into the wall and for her powers to work. Donât go into the wall, donât go into the wall. She chanted into her head as she sprinted towards the wall with her eyes close. As she felt her feet land on soft grass and her face not screaming in pain, she popped her eyes open to see that she safely made it outside. She jumped in circles with an excited yell, before realizing that there was someone right there next to her. She turned and grinned sheepishly. âOh, hi. Sorry. I didnât mean to scream your ear outâŚâÂ
The little shapeshifter had no idea what was in store for him at the school. He hadnât yet really come to terms with - well - anything, so he was absolutely terrified. And the very last thing he expected was a very high pitched girl to appear - through a wall - then start yelling and dancing around next to him. Taking a couple of steps back, Rio nervously fiddled with the edge of his cheap t-shirt, staring at her with wide gold-brown eyes. When she spoke to him he blinked owlishly, too nervous even to smile.
After a moment of building his courage, Rio swallowed shakily. âU - um. Itâs okay.â he mumbled, looking at her and then back up to the wall sheâd managed to go through. âDid you just - did you just walk through that?â he whispered, Ohio accent showing through clearly. He didnât realise that mutant school was - well. Right up immediately in his face with the whole ... people doing incredible things. He bit his lip.
âThey said I need to go talk to, um, to the professor?â he said, pulling a letter from his backpack with shaky hands. âI need to - um, to enrol...â he twisted the paper in his hands, looking up to the immense, imposing building once again. âIâm not sure where to go.â his voice was almost inaudible now, shaking with terror. Just like the rest of Rio was shaking with terror.
