the first volume of yamaguchi-kun isn’t so bad was okay, it kinda struggled to pull me in. I think because the main character is a little bit nothing. all she really seems to think about is “oh wait this scary looking guy is nice. I want to know him better” and it’s like nothing else ever goes on in her head? I don’t personally care for her design that much either.
I do like that she’s the pursuer though, it’s so often the guy in general and especially when it’s a more “rough” looking guy like this one. but she’s the one that keeps pushing things forward, and she gets to fluster him often, which is cute. on the other hand it kind of seems like it’s going to start sliding back the other direction as he’s starting to get jealous.
it is worth noting that the volume opens with a molester on the train being thwarted, nothing is shown and whether or not any contact was made is vague but the term is used repeatedly in the first chapter if you need a heads up for that.
I’m torn on whether or not to give it another volume. I think maybe I should shelve it under “okay” for now and just leave it at that, and I can always revisit it some other time. there’s already plenty of other things I’m more excited to read.
