Mainverse Stindze Drabble || How she fell in love.
Months had passed by since Lindze had been in a bar, in front of a crowd, with vodka in her eye, her shirt everywhere else but not on her, drunk and only clad in her bra and a pair of jeans-- whilst Stevie danced half naked on her. A couple more had also passed, since they woke up to find each other's naked limbs tangled and intertwined with nothing for a memory of the past night and tequila for breath. It hadn't really changed since then, with playful, flirtatious banter exchanged every night when Lindze called her for a good time. And it was beginning to look like all Stevie ever was to her would be a good time.
Somewhere in between, Stevie found herself doing the very forbidden-- growing fond of the woman . But it wasn't her fault, it was the smirks and the snarky remarks and then that one time they cuddled. They had been on Lindze's couch, a bottle in one hand, and a fistful of her hair in the other. It was only when Stevie was sated that Lindze would stop, she understood why, but sometimes, Stevie would rather just get Zee off and be done with it, for what Lindze did always left her craving for more. And when they were done, drunken Stevie was surprised to find her crawling up from between her legs to her side, wrapping her arms around Stevie as she pressed her face into the crook of her neck. They stayed silent for a moment, the alcohol in their system making it seem like this was completely normal. Then Lindze fell asleep and she found herself prying her way out.
Sometimes the night made it easier for her to leave, the dim lights making it harder to see each other, harder for Stevie to see the contours of the very face that she knew she'd wouldn't want to leave, even though they were simply friends.
It wasn't when, or how, Stevie found that her breath was no longer hers. It was the collective moments that they had, every moment when light giggles broke the tension, every time they'd wrestle for dominance, every time they joked about being girlfriends, every 'shut up', every 'you're an idiot'... even when either one of them tells the other, 'don't be such a girl', all she heard was- and all she said was, "please do. Please tell me you like me back, because its lonely and lately you're the only thing that's helping." It was every argument they had, it was the times where it'd end up with Stevie against the wall, tasting the flavour of chapstick on Lindze's lips and it only ever tasted like sin and greed. For Stevie wanted Lindze to love like her back. And that was greedy, and selfish of her.
Her heart would speed up, her mouth would run dry, every time she realised that every bone and muscle and fiber belonged to Lindze, like the very first time she noticed the way Lindze looked at Devlin. The emotions in her eyes, told Stevie everything. It told her that no matter what happened, Stevie wouldn't mind. Even if it meant drunken nights watching television and making silly dubs at the muted screen alone, or if it meant no more late night booty calls. She didn't even care if Lindze told her that they should stop talking to each other as she dated her big brother. As long as she was happy. And that was the moment Stevie realised that it wasn't a mere liking, or affection. Stevie was in love.
And that was why every four am walk of shame hurt like heartbreak, and that was why that very night when Lindze asked her to stay it was so difficult to walk away. It all came crashing down on Stevie, a painful kind of reality.
That was why tonight, Stevie found herself shifting away the moment she noticed Lindze was asleep, or she thought she was at least. It was the idea, that it should have been her brother holding Lindze instead of her tonight, that made Stevie want to leave all the more. She wanted to stay, and she wanted to leave. This was how mad the little brunette drove her, and when Lindze turned to face her, elbows propping her up, Stevie's heart jumped a little. The sudden contact surprised her, almost as much as the proposition offered to her-- the same one she was offered a few weeks back. "Hit it and quit it, right?" She smiled, chuckling lightly.
"Yeah, we're uh...we're alright, Lindze. We're still friends."
"Call you later?"
"Only if you need a good time." Stevie taunted, shutting the door behind her with a heavy heart.
