Kaneki didn’t make a habit of hanging around Newstark’s high schools. He hadn’t been in high school for a bit of time, and he didn’t miss it, not to mention the fact that hanging around schools he didn’t go to just make him look creepy.
But one of his TAs was apparently also working part-time at the school, and they’d insisted that he needed to give them the papers they requested that day, when they could only meet at the school. So he found himself walking down the halls, looking for the room his TA had said to meet them in.
Partway through his search, he found himself distracted by violin music. It was awfully pretty, and he was certain he’d never heard a high schooler play that way before. Acutely aware of how his appearance might frighten a teenager, he didn’t intend to approach the person, just look to see if the one playing violin so beautifully really was a high schooler.
Of course, those plans were ruined when he accidentally nudged his shoulder into the door, opening it with a creak that made his breath freeze in his chest as the music stopped.
“Oh, I’m sorry--I didn’t mean to interrupt, I just wanted to see who was playing. You perform beautifully.”
