Reading more from the State of UK Birds 2020 report. The Wren is the most common breeding UK bird at 11 million pairs. It is not only small with a small territory, but is found in many habitats right across the UK from woodlands to remote islands, like St. Kilda - home to our largest sub-species, the picture shown The Wren may be small in size and name, but it has a lovely loud and spiralling song, and a long latin name. Troglodytes troglodytes! It means cave dweller. In the UK we like to call it 'the' Wren (also 'the' Blackbird, Robin, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Cormorant etc. etc.!). Found across Eurasia it is also known as the Eurasian Wren or Winter Wren. Infact it is the only wren in Eurasia (unless they split it up) for what is a New World family.
