St. Margaret Clitherow

St. Margaret, “The Pearl of York” and one of the 40 British martyrs, was born during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.(Elizabeth tried to eliminate the Catholic faith from England) St. Margaret was a beautiful and lively women who married John Clitherow at 18 and had 3 living children. Raised  protestant, she converted to the Catholic faith at 21. A fearless and outspoken Catholic, she opened her home to missionary priests, who also said Mass there. For this, she was caught and condemened to death by “pressing”. St. Margaret was most likely pregnant when she died on Good Friday, 1586, by being crushed by 800# of stone. Their sons, Henry and William became priests, and their daughter Anne, a nun at St. Ursula's, Louvain.
