Adventures in gay talk with my family
So this first one happened when I was still unsure of my sexuality, but I was going to an event my school's qsa had with my lesbian friend. My mom asked me if I identified as that (After first asking what qsa stood for, which I thought everyone knew). I initially deflected, pointing out that I don't think you can be anything other than queer or straight. She just asked me the question again, and so I told her that I was attracted to both boys and girls. She went and told me that it was totally ok, which I found a bit frustrating, as obviously it's ok, why wouldn't it be ok? Are you implying that there would be a reason for it not to be ok? (I get that this is better than a lot of people and I shouldn't be complaining, but she can be frustrating even when she is trying to help)
Story number two: Basically my cousin (who is also bi, and the same age as me) lives pretty far away, so I don't get to see her often. We were planning a trip to visit her (and the rest of my family), and my mom made a point to tell me not to 'hog' her. As in, go off and hide in her room with the door locked so that they leave us alone. My mom then started saying that she knew we both [insert everything we have in common {which is a lot, it's kind of creepy}], but then instead of saying that we can relate to each other in that we are both bi, she said "you are both toying with the idea of bisexuality". This upset me because it implied that I wasn't actually bisexual, and that I was just messing around. And the fact that she said the "idea" of bisexuality. As if it doesn't exist and is just an idea, a concept that isn't real.
Stoey number three is way more light-hearted. My family was talking about world problems, including overpopulation. My sister said something about the world needing more gay people (so as not to reproduce). I stepped in and said "of course the world needs more gay people. Not that that has anything to do with overpopulation, we're just awesome" she just stared at me. So did the rest of my family. Probably because I said it very extra, and loudly. Also, we were in a burger king.
Alright, fourth and final story. We were watching mamma mia, and the gay couple was onscreen, shirtless. My mom then went on a rant about how gay men are always walking around shirtless (whether or not this is true, she has no way to tell whether men walking around shirtless are gay or straight. Unless they are asking out with a man, then they are probably gay). She went on to say that if you go in a normal bar, then guys are wearing shirts. If you go into a gay bar, then the guys are shirtless. I tried to intervene, stating that if straight guys sat around bars shirtless then straight girls would probably think that they're gross. At gay bars it's acceptable, because... I don't even know why. It just is. Probably because by now it's just normal, so no one thinks of it as weird, and I'm sure that the gay/bi/pan guys don't mind seeing shirtless guys. The lesbians just ignore them, and don't really care, and the bi and pan girls get to admire the view (though let's face it, if we're at a gay bar, we're going to be flirting with the girls.)
Moral of the story/ies: my mom isn't quite homophobic, but she can get me very frustrated with how oblivious she is to how rude she is being

I took a photo with my phone to tell a story to have a background to have that realism. Also, I have the character tell a story in the pose.

I lit another cigarette and as my body slowly dwindles closer towards the end of existence, the end of time, and the end of the universe... I saw the latest star being born and it was smoking its own brand of nicotine, much more rockier than mine. "It's okay to get a little high, just go home."
From time to time
Really happy with whole these characters turned out. Especially the guy. I'll finish it in the near future perhaps for a colored peice. #artstudent #practice #artclass #pose #lifedrawing #fight #character #visualdevelopment #stoey #beastgirl #roman #battle #progress
