Stonestar - WindClan Leader
"It's a sign from StarClan. StarClan is telling us that even when Clans are close together, they are separate, far enough apart for a tree to fall without touching them. Borders may be invisible and thin as a whisker, but they are strong as oak, and they cannot be crossed. Not for friendship, not for prey, not for anything." - Stonestar, Code of the Clans
Charmingspark flirting with all the single (and interested in males) IrrelevantClan cats at the same time. Please ignore how incredibly long his tail is.
Ok but may we hear more about that Stonestar lore you made up there? 👀
oo yes!! Sorry lol i reblogged that while at my con table and never elaborated xD
ANYWAYS STONESTAR LORE!!
So! in WCSR, StormClan's Folly takes place almost directly before Code of the Clans. Gale Rise and Stripebark are born in year 27, becoming leaders in year 31ish, and StormClan leaving the forest in yr 32.
So, as we all know from that book, some of the former WindClan and ThunderClan cats (such as Crowflight and Grassfoot) stay behind and join RiverClan or ShadowClan.
Stonestar's parents are currently unnamed/unknown. However, he is born to a RiverClan tom and a former WindClan she-cat who took refuge in RC when StormClan left the forest.
He is about 11 moons younger than Ryepaw/whisker and Cloudpaw/berry, both of whom are living in RiverClan at the time. Ryewhisker's parents are Crowflight and an unnamed, formerly WindClan tom, and Cloudberry's parents are Emberflower/star of RiverClan and Thistletail of ThunderClan, who stayed behind and moved to RiverClan as well.
When the now-broken up ThunderClan and WindClan return in year 34, Stonepaw follows his mother back to the moors along with Crowflight, Ryewhisker, and other former WindClan cats who wish to re-join. He feels very much like a fish out of water, as his father opted to stay in RiverClan, and the return of former StormClan cats kinda broke up his little community (being Emberstar, Thistletail, Cloudberry, Ryewhisker, Crowflight, Crowflight's mate, himself, and his parents)
When Crowstar becomes the new leader of WindClan, she finishes Stonepaw's training, and he is eventually named Stonetail. Crowstar names her son, Ryewhisker, as her successor (as nepotism was very common in this era of the code). Because of her sister's half-clan relationship destroying WindClan, Crowstar is very stern with her son: stop seeing Cloudberry. She also forbids Stonetail from visiting RiverClan to see his father, something that causes him to resent her
Stonetail then witnesses the tragedy of Cloudberry and Ryewhisker's relationship; they continue to meet in secret, and eventually Crowstar loses her ninth life trying to save her son in a fierce battle with RiverClan.
With her dying words, Crowstar says that the Clans should outlaw cross-clan relationships, because they have caused nothing but harm. She also names Stonetail as her successor, much to his surprise and dismay.
When Crowstar's suggestion of creating the first part of the Warrior Code is brought to the gathering, the newly named Stonestar is the only leader who opposes it, only for the other leaders to point out that "you only feel that way because you're half-clan!" The prejudice against half-clan relationships and cats existed before, but everything with StormClan made it 10x worse.
he spends the rest of his nine lives trying to reverse the decision of his fellow leaders, to no avail. He begs his deputy and successor Hazelstar to continue his mission, but Hazelstar has other things to worry about (such as Blizzardstar pushing on WindClan's borders), and Stonestar's qualms with the first law in the warrior code are silently forgotten, along with the rest of the StormClan era; in modern retellings of the story, StormClan is forgotten all together, with the blame for the first law being placed solely on Ryewhisker and Cloudberry.
