As part of a local survey earlier this year, WCS scientists dropped underwater microphones into the waters off Tanzania to listen to dolphins and whales. The team heard a surprising number of explosions, as well—the sound of fishermen using dynamite to catch their quarry. It's a practice called blast fishing. Read more
