The Words That Have Been Living In My Throat For Three Days
In early October “Pussy Grabs Back” became a popular rally cry. Women were outraged after Donald Trump’s locker room talk was brought to light. The man stood in front of a microphone and boasted that he had sexually assaulted women. This same man has since made multiple ignorant remarks regarding a variety of races, religions, and sexual orientations. In my opinion, the entire basis of this man’s campaign was oppression. America, how did we get here? Yet some of you still aren’t able to see the danger in this man’s ideology.
While my heart strives to see a perfection in everything, recent events have been hard for me to come to terms with. I determined a creative outlet could be beneficial to all of us. All submissions, suggestions, and questions are welcome. This is a tremendously crucial time for us to come together. We cannot be divided. We cannot be separated.
I’ve watched as friends on social media dismiss one another’s concerns as complaints. It all seems so insensitive. What about the post-election violence and hate crimes? Are we permitted to complain about those? What about the fact that suicide prevention hotlines have surged in the last three days? Would you prefer we refrain from disrupting your cat videos, memes, and pictures of food? This is not intended to come off as a dehumanization of sexuality and it’s certainly not an attempt to make light of anything. These are just the words that have been living in my throat for three days.
