I’ve been wanting to do some stop-motion animation with my Hulkbuster figure from Beast Kingdom for about a year, and finally had some time this weekend to do it. It’s huge for an action figure, and weighed more than my stop-motion rig could support, so I used a desk lamp arm to hold it up during mid-air poses.
Total animation time, not including post-production work, was about 4 hours. Animated this using the Stopmotion Studio app on my iPad. For the background plate, I duct-taped my iPhone to the rear bumper of my Jeep and drove around Burbank. Roto and comp done in Adobe Aftereffects.
One day, I’d like to see if I can get the figure to hit the poses in my 2D planning for a fight with Thanos. We’ll see. :) Here’s a snippet of the fight:
And here’s the animation “stage” I put together in my kitchen for filming at night. The iPad runs the Stopmotion Studio animation app, which can use an iPhone as the remote camera.
