BREAKING! Volunteer camp was vandalized and expensive equipment stolen. The first expedition to monitor orca capture in Russia turned into an incredibly aggressive process. The new encounter with fishermen and group of volunteers “Ocean friends” ended not only with threats, but also with the theft of expensive personal property. On August 17, a group of volunteers was conducting monitoring in the Gulf of Constantine have become a witness to an attempt to capture killer whales. Orca hunters did not suspect the presence of volunteers near the place of the capture. Noticing a group of orcas going toward the hunter ships (a group of catamarans, boats and a ship SPP-020), volunteers went out into the open sea at a time when family of orcas was already dangerously close to the nets. Hunters were surprised by the appearance of the volunteers' boat and tried to lead the observers away from the capture location: four catamarans and four boats moved north going to the detection where “Ocean Friends” set up a camp few kilometers away. Volunteers followed the hunters’ boats  for about 7 km. Then volunteers decided to go back when they suspected that such an unexpected departure from capture location could be an attempt to draw attention away from an animal that was killed during capture. Volunteers checked the area where capture attempt took place but didn’t find anything suspicious, so they went to hunters’ ship to check if there is anything suspicious on board or in transportation containers. They flew a drone above the ship remaining 300 meters away from it and confirmed that transportation containers were empty. Volunteers started getting worried about their camp and immediately went back. Approaching the camp they met the same group of fishermen . Once they got back volunteers found that all things were scattered: starting from first aid kit to personal belongings. Gas cans were open and drained, expensive equipment was stolen.
