#MemorialDay Heather Heyer was born May 29th 1985 , just two days after me ... She was killed August 12th 2017 .. She was killed when a terrorist ran a car into a crowd of protestors... I was supposed to be in the exact location of her death , but God had other plans .. My original ride flaked , so I didn't arrive to Charlottesville until 30 minutes after her death ... I have been battling "survivors guilt" .. I feel as of more leaders should have been on the frontlines . Not to be slain , but to have kept peace in uncertain times. I was leaving Subway after we had finally took a break from the madness to get a quick bite. Once we came out of Subway there was a waiter taking a smoke break sitting on some type of grill outside of the restaurant she worked at , scrolling Facebook like you are right now ... She let out the most horrendous scream I could never unhear ... She found out via Facebook that it was her best friend that was killed in the streets. We immediately got out the car to go comfort her. I made my way back to where she was murdered around 10pm that night. HBO interviewed me, it was hard to describe the fear and uncertainty Charlottesville was going thru at the time ... We coordinated to make this vigil happen the next day with the help of Charlottesville police because the KKK would make threats Everytime someone would post a vigil ... Not everyone who "served" joined the armed forces ... In the words of Heather "If you're not outraged you're not paying attention" 🥀🥀🥀 #ThankYouHeather #StopTheHate #StopTheDivision #Activist #HeatherHeyer (at Charlottesville, Virginia)
