On the Yulin Dog Meat Festival
I have been seeing a lot of vegans ridiculing people who try to stand up for the slaughter of thousands of dogs, especially if those people eat pigs, chickens, and cows. I am a vegan, and I understand that compassion needs to be extended to all living things. However, to fight against anybody that is trying to stand up for those dogs is counter-productive. The fact is, those dogs are being brutally slaughtered right now, and we need to encourage anybody who feels moved by their suffering. This could be their doorway into universal compassion. Instead of tearing them down for the empathy they feel towards dogs, we can gently remind them that the meat they eat is no different from those dogs that are being killed in Yulin. Show them that they are doing the right thing by fighting the slaughter of innocence, then help them to expand that to the rest of the animal kingdom.
