Storj Decentralized Storage For a New Generation.
*Before I continue with my post I need to disclose that I am invested in this project financially, but primarily because I believe in the goals and future it will create.* It is no surprise that I am a huge believer in decentralized technology, I mean the word made it into my blog name, but it is also my goal on this blog to make my audience aware of some great projects on the internet that might have otherwise slipped through the cracks. The first project I want to make people aware of is Storj, a "Dropbox" type platform that will offer cloud storage at nearly 10x less the price of current offers from places like amazon and Dropbox. How can this be done might you ask? Well this is the genius part of Storj that will ultimately change the entire economy surrounding cloud storage. Users that have extra unused hard drive space will be able to offer it up via an application provided and stream it in tandem with thousands of others around the world to create a cloud network. Rather than having one data center holding racks upon racks of hard drive space, the space is split among many people throughout the world. There is no single point that could be shut down to stop data from being spread, this is because when a file is uploaded it is shred into a million pieces and spread throughout all the computers on the platform's network, but only the original uploader decides who the file can be accessed by. People are given a financial incentive to host their extra space by being paid in tokens called Storjx. Storjx are the only way that people can actually pay for the service if they need a larger amount of space than they have available themselves. The price of Storjx is decided by the free market and can move depending on supply and demand. If you think Storj sounds cool, check it out at Storj.io
