Five day forecast brings an Indian summer and stormy weather
Sunday, October 19 – Some respite between storm fronts
Temperatures will drop to 19C but it will still be unusually warm for this time of year. It will be cloudy and there is a 30 per cent chance of a storm hitting the country. Winds will remains blusty with speeds of up to 34mph and a chance of showers in parts. The Met Office on their site report the outlook for Sunday to Tuesday is that things remain unsettled and breezy throughout, with showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures returning to nearer normal after a very mild start.
This time last year: The south-east saw rain on the morning of 19th and another band of heavy showers spread from the west during the afternoon.

Monday, October 20 – Hurricane Gonzalo approaches
Temperatures will drastically drop as the aftermath of Hurricane Gonzalo approaches the country. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 60.8F (16C) in parts and wind speeds are expected to be around 30mph which is double their strength this time last year.
This time last year: The 20th was a day of sunshine and heavy showers, with thunderstorms in the Midlands and winds gusting to 55 mph on the south coast. There were also reports of a tornado at Hayling Island (Hampshire).
Tuesday, October 21 – Hurricane Gonzalo passes over us
We are likely to see the fallout from Hurricane Gonzalo potentially hit the UK.
Forecasters presently predict sunny spells, showers and strong winds. Temperatures will remain at 60.8F (16C). Showers are likely to turn heavy in the north and west, with snow over high ground here, along with gales, which could be severe in places. There is a risk of flash flooding in parts depending on the rainfall.
This time last year: It was an unsettled day on 21st with showers or longer spells of rain for many areas, and Keswick (Cumbria) recorded 39 mm.
Wednesday, October 22
The weather is due to remain unsetted and breezy with showers or longer spells of rain as the aftermath of Hurricane Gonzalo potentially passes across the country. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 60.8F (16C).
This time last year: The showers were scattered on the 22nd in a fresh south-west wind. A powerful autumn storm brought damaging winds across much of southern England on 28 October 2013.
