I can't explain it but some books just feel thin. Like you can sense the stage sets and nails holding up the painted backdrops. it's not always a bad thing. Sometimes it adds its own unique flavor. In Other Lands comes to mind, where the tropeyness is there to be both taken seriously and subverted and adds a playful fairytale feel. Other books feel rich. Matthew Swift. Stormlight Archive. books that feel like you could step inside and live in them. it's not always extensive worldbuilding on the page, either. Murderbot: minimal worldbuilding, but still feels like you could walk in and keep on walking. Not exactly the same as suspension of disbelief but it's related to it
