halfway through platform decay and the most mind blowing reveal so far is that sanctuary moon episodes are a full hour long lmao. i thought they were like 22-minute friends episode kind of length and that was why a) it seems like a kinda schlocky scifisploitation churn-out-as-many-cliffhangers-as-possible sort of show and b) there's such an enormous volume of episodes despite the show's relatively mid reputation, but no, apparently it really is like if game of thrones ran for forty seasons. wild.
Immagine being Adrian, and your spouse leaves for 46 years and brings back a fucking creature with an offensive lack of limbs and surplus of holes and he puts the damn thing in a fishtank in the middle of the city.
so i imagine plants being a terrifying subject matter for young eridians....
PHM spaceships gijinka
Pov you're Three and multiple fuck off massive ships saw you from across the bar and liked your vibe ✨
Very vaguely inspired by this from Platform Decay (mild spoiler):
This kid is so fucking good holy shit. I love how into it the audience is, too
Tarik: hey did you know that SecUnit can swivel its head like an owl Ratthi: What? No it can't Tarik: ??? Ratthi: ????
And if I said Megamind is one of the few movies that understands Superman.
And if I said Megamind through its three subversions of Superman shows a deeper understanding that the point of Superman is that he was loved and taught to love by good, present parents, and because of that he is able to return that love to a world even if it doesn't always accept it, and he is not corrupted by his power, than many other films either subverting or playing the superman story straight.
Megamind has three Superman subversions. One is obviously Megamind himself. He was not raised loved by the world, but rather was loved by those hated by the world. Because he was still raised with love, he does care about other people, hence his character development. But because he didn't receive wider love growing up, his own is misplaced at first.
Metro Man was not loved growing up in a way that mattered. His adopted father was clearly very absent, and while we don't know much about his family, their relationship seems superficial. Because of this, his sense of duty to the world is also superficial, hence his boredom.
Hal wasn't raised with power. He gained it and was shown how to use it by a 'space dad' who only taught him power and not love. Hence, he sees it only as a grasping means to an end.
All three of these subversions, in their negative space, create the silhouette of the superhero that they are parodying. That silhouette is of a space child that came to earth and was cared for very deeply by the world, and taught love through his experience of love, and because of that holds fast to his duty to the world. Which is Superman.
Fascinating bit of linguistic worldbuilding that is never elaborated on again
Also fascinating that the Arbora seem to take it for granted that they're supposed to wait on the royals, not because the royals are better than them or deserve it or anything like that, but because it makes the court look good. Only a struggling mess of a colony would need the queens and consorts to do their own laundry etc
Worldstop moment
“i should take a walk for my mental health” boring, tired, i don’t even really wanna do it tbh
“i need to check the perimeter” i need to check the perimeter
Fascinating bit of linguistic worldbuilding that is never elaborated on again
Preach I guess
OH I HAVE MISUNDERSTOOD
Love that Murderbot sees itself as the absolute worst most dangerous thing in any room at any given time
Except ☝️when a combat SecUnit or combat bot shows up
Then it's a very sudden turn to "I am a mid sized herding breed and that is a fucking wolf. All my sheep and myself are going to die"
The wild thing is that Murderbot has, in fact, fought and destroyed multiple other combat bots and combat SecUnits.
Murderbot sees itself as a medium sized border collie when it is, in fact, a Kangal with a spiked anti-wolf collar and a known wolf kill count.
Very funny to me that ART spends all of AC playing it cool and then just kind of gives up in NE. Like Rapport suggests this might be because it has been Processing its feelings since then but it's hilarious from MB's perspective. End of AC ART is like hm well if i ever see you again that might be cool otherwise goodbye forever and then in NE its like UnBlock Me I Am In Love With You???
