Why does the Bible have authority?
As followers of Jesus we don't follow the OT Laws. Well... at least not the weird ones like boiling goats in their mother's milk, wearing cotton blends, or funny hairstyles. But we do follow some of the other laws, and depending on where you spend your Sundays you may try to follow more of them than others. Take the no tattoo law for example. So why is the Bible authoritative if we can pick and choose what to follow and what not to follow? Or maybe the better question is... HOW is the Bible authoritative?
If we can answer that question then maybe it explains why we follow some laws and can be comfortable ignoring the others. To help us along I dug up this 20 year old article from our friend N.T. Wright. This article is definitely worth the 20 minute read and helps clarify the answer to our question, but more importantly it gives us a voice for how to explain the Bible to many of our friends and family who are asking really, really good questions.
Hint: The answer has more to do with story than you might have ever imagined, ;)
