AT&T Provides Communications Support to Oregon Department of Forestry to Help Battle the #Stouts Wildfire
AT&T has deployed a COW (Cell on Wheels) to a site east of Canyonville, Oregon to provide communications support to the Oregon Department of Forestry that is actively battling the Stouts Fire Wildfire 16 miles east of Canyonville; one mile south of Milo.
The Stouts wild fire has burned approximately 16,500 Acres and is only 10% contained. The Oregon Department of Forestry command center is set up away from the firefighting lines, limiting their ability to effectively communicate. AT&T’s COW arrived yesterday afternoon and is now on-air and close enough to the fire line to provide communications support for the roughly 1,500 fire fighters combating the fire.
AT&T’s COW provides enhanced cellular service in the deployment area, and is targeted to support those working in the command site to help keep communications flowing. As a self-contained mobile cell site, a COW can be quickly set up to replace lost capacity from a damaged permanent site, or as in this case, provide supplemental cellular capacity to an area experiencing an increase in demand.
