Hello St. Paul Grill! @stpaulgrill #stpaulgrill #stpaulhotel #Minnesota #MN #onlyinmn #Minnesotalife #twincities #minnesotalove #minnesota (at The St. Paul Grill)
Let's Eat: The Saint Paul Grill @ The Saint Paul Hotel
Next time you’re in Downtown Saint Paul for a show at the Ordway or a dinner reservation and you’re looking for an upscale spot for grab a cocktail or bite before the performance begins you must stop into the beautiful Saint Paul Hotel. If anything, just to say you’ve been there once! Tucked behind the gorgeous sparkling crystal chandeliers and around the corner you can find the Saint Paul Grill. It’s a combination of suits, ties, heels and class in the heart of the city. The walls are stocked with only the finest liquors which include only the best of the best aged scotches and whiskeys aged between 3 – 25 years. If you’re celebrating something special go for the Maccallan 55 year old Scotch, but be forewarned it’s $750 a pour (yepperoni, 7-5-0 and I imagine it’s the best scotch you’ll ever drink) or you can join the Scotch Club and once you’ve tried them all you’ll get a free pour. On a busy Thursday night I was lucky enough to find a parking spot outside. Stepping in I felt like I was taking a moment back in time. The walls are lined with famous Minnesotans and not just the celebrities, people who have created some of the most historic landmarks in the area! I had no idea who Roy Wilkins was; yes… the Roy Wilkins Auditorium that we’ve watched countless shows and roller derbies at. He was a prominent civil rights activist. Did you know that, because I sure didn’t! Oh and Sally Ordway Irvine and Lucius Ordway; yes… where we watch amazing shows throughout the year and also where many people get married in the park just blocks away from W7th Street. Along one wall was a timeline of Minnesota history! Finally, I was able to put faces to the names I’ve heard growing up. On your way out the door, take a peak; trust me it’s worth it! I found a seat at the bar, sitting in the midst of conversations of business deals, patio parties and what shows in town. I had to start with the Saint Paul Grills take on the Moscow Mule; naturally named the Minnesota Mule by incorporating locally made Prairie Organic Vodka, Ginger Beer, Simple Syrup, lime, candied ginger served in the ever classic copper mug. I also tried the Huckleberry Margarita and it was fantastic Suza Extra Gold Tequila, Lime, Cointreau and Huckleberry Syrup. If you’re feeling extra ritzy, go with the Prestige (8yr Don Pacho, Dry Vermouth, Lime, Velvet Falerum and Pineapple Juice) another favorite was the Highland Crossing (Chivas Scotch, St. Germain, Honey, OJ and Lemon).
I can’t forget to mention the martini selection! Take a trip to NYC without leaving your seat and order The Manhattan Experience ( broken bell bourbon,Caballero Orange liquor, sweet vermouth, Jamaican #2 bitters and cardamom). If you’re looking a something sweet, try the Bonita Applebaum (old Tom gin,Apple liqueur, Apple juice and St.Germain), just to name a few The Bar Menu is a list of decadence to enjoy, from a plate of sizzling bacon to escargot, calamari, crab and artichoke baked and grilled octopus to name a few. If you’re making a quick stop in, I highly suggest ordering the Pomme Frites that is accompanied by an amazing creamy béarnaise like sauce fordipping (Choron Sauce) and the ½ order is more than enough for 1-2, maybe even 3. The majority of the items from the Dinner Menu are also available at the bar, so whether you’re looking for Burger try the Market Street ( Grilled chicken, thick cut bacon, Swiss, cheddar with Sriracha mayo. The Ahi Tuna Charlie looked as amazing as the description (Grilled and Glazed Tuna Steaks with Sweet and Spicy Pickled Cucumbers arugula and wasabi mayo on a potato roll) or maybe you’re in the mood for Bourbon Pork Chops or Lobster, if so, the Saint Paul Grill can provide it and if this a dream, please let me keep sleeping. Happy Eating! - Angela
