will and Nancy at the jancy wedding
@strangeurs said : “What’s behind you in these pictures…?” from will!
❝ wh - wh - wha ––––––– ?? ❞ eyes scan the picture : searching , searching . . . and then he sees it , lingering right over his left shoulder , the one wrapped tightly around the smiling form of his brother . a balloon , like the kind you would see at any child’s birthday party . and yet the sight of it makes his blood run cold and his arms break out into gooseflesh . ( because it’s a balloon alright , but not your every day garden variety birthday balloon . oh no , not with the way it tilts into the wind , the light gleaming off it’s side looking almost sinister . reminding him of ––– reminding him of ?? ) just as soon as that thought is there it’s gone . it’s just a balloon , after all . and yet he can’t seem to stop his heart’s thundering or shake the feeling that there is something wrong , something very wrong , that he can’t quite remember . ❝ i d - dunno . jj - j - just a bb - balloon . ❞
* ——— @strangeurs / wait here, i’m gonna go check it out. ( steve )
only a single, flickering street - light provides any reference to the profuse night. there’s a sense of deja - vu that smothers young girl, fragmented and blurred. ‹ you’ve been here before, right? › or perhaps a dream, solid enough to provoke emotions, but thin and wispy, hard to grasp without a moment to take to herself. tucked near steve’s side and unwilling to leave it just yet, susie exhales through her mouth, ❝ you’re just going to leave me here? it’s pitch black out here, are you crazy? ❞
nose pink from the dreary weather, susie sniffs, sleeve brandished ‘cross the freckled - ridge, unsettled. her scrutiny never strays, affixed to the treeline, the darkness makes each shape indistinguishable and grave. ❝ don’t you work at a video store? ever seen a horror movie? ❞

❛ WILL, STAY WITH ME. IT'S OKAY, YOU'RE OKAY. ❜ they are not strangers to one another's tics, what a silence can mean and when it is weighted enough to matter. they have each in turn been the one to bring the other back to the light, lantern in tow and hands outstretched, bellowing into a blustering gale — follow my voice !
trauma is a fleeting maiden : never quite leaving them, showing on their doorsteps when she is least expected ( and never wanted ) and damning them all in her wake. will's seizures are few and far between these days but all the more shaking when they happen, like seismic waves that rock hawkins to its core, rending the tectonic plates of his mind apart. lucas' hands adopt the standard procedures : pulse, breathing, pupils, temperature.
❛ will — just hang on, you're with me, i'm here. breathe. ❜
a gasp for air speaks of resounding promise : lucas stands back in a scampered rush to allow him the space to return into, to reclaim his body and hands and feet as his own. but when those achingly tired eyes open, the presence that occupies them is foreign. malignant, like a tumor that has thus far lay dormant, sprung into life.
❛ . . . will ? ❜

Will: I need you to come meet me, and I need you to come alone. Lucas: And I need you to be less vague and weird.
- - - Lucas: I can’t believe all these people are wearing black. black is supposed to be my thing, they’re all just posers. Will: Lucas, for the last time, we’re at a funeral.
- - -
Lucas: I just ended a five year relationship. Will: Oh no, are you okay? Lucas: It's okay, it wasn't mine.
“ happy birthday , man . ” he smiled , looking unsure , not at will directly but instead in all different directions around him . the gift was wrapped in red paper , taking the shape of what appeared to be some kind of book . “ it’s dumb . but i figured you’d like it . not that what you like is dumb . i mean , i like it too . ” / @strangeurs
the walk from the bus stop that day was hot . she announced it several times to will as if he might be able to change it . it’s hot . it’s hot . he didn’t change it , instead her clothes began to stick to her body in a way that made her want to climb out of them . she whined . “ i don’t like this . ” / @strangeurs
the will and nancy experience is being capable of undergoing extremely traumatic experiences and working together to stay alive meanwhile being unable to meet each other’s eyes when passing the box of cereal across the dining room table
