Meet Major Stratom!
He’s based on the voice chip used in Stratovox/Speak & Rescue, the first video game to feature voice synthesis!
Major Stratom was originally built by the Japanese space program to be a disposable space rover, exploring things that could not be safely explored by humans or other robots/androids due to things like environmental hazards. Major Stratom was built to be the leader of a team of other rovers, their test mission taking place on the moon. Before even reaching the moon, however, one of the bots faced a failure in their build, leading to them dying of explosive decompression. Their first real mission was set for Mars, and one of the team members exploding proved to be an omen. They found life on Mars. Or, rather, it found them. Stratom, now the last remaining member of his team, called for an emergency evacuation. He went back to Earth, learned he was essentially disposable and would have been destroyed be it he failed his mission or not, and subsequently fled the country. Now in America, his attempt to flee the Japanese government has proven to be a success.
