Luffy helping reader not be so co-dependent and anxious!
Reader has abandonment issues from their childhood and it shows even through adulthood. It causes them to be a massive people pleaser. Often getting used and not knowing. (not inherently in a sexual way but ykwim) Thus Luffy is trying to build self confidence in the reader as well as get them to make decisions on their own!
Fragile
Luffy's a hard headed guy.. like REEEEALLY hard headed, so at first he didn't understand. He always felt like you've never talked as loud as you wanted to, or didn't really ask questions unless expected or didn't talk unless spoken to...
But the last straw is when you didn't stand up for yourself against people. Like, not as in evil Marines or lackeys, no, you were at least smarter than that,
Against people you considered your "friend"
And that bothered him.. A LOT
And instead of leaving you to figure it out he started helping you in small ways, like turning someone down, making you leave WITH him so you wouldn't just be left out, sometimes flat out saying no when he needed to..
And that bothered people. And of course you knew what he was doing but you didn't try to stop it.
And when you were alone with him like he wanted, he probably would play a dumb game or try and make you laugh or just talk to you, was it weird? Yes. Did you care? NOPE
Imagine, having THE monkey D Luffy be this obsessed with you.
Yeah.. you totally took it the wrong way.
You thought that he had a crush on you, which at first seemed STUPID but with all the attention maybe, JUST MAYBE..
He could possibly have at least a shimmer of a braincell left so he could know how he loves you..?
But you didn't get your hopes up thankfully. You pushed your thoughts aside and focused on Luffy the only person you could truly feel safe with
And it worked! After a while you fell in love :>
