This bunny had eluded the Bloomington volunteer stray bunny capturing squad for weeks, but the homeowner who had originally spotted her managed to finally nab her in a trap we loaned out! She had quite a few ticks on her face and the inner sides of her legs. But otherwise seems quite healthy. And we found her family! Her name is Snuggles, and they had given up hope that they would ever find her again after she escaped all those weeks ago. So we're glad to be sending her home soon. She was very cuddly with me as I groomed the ticks off. This is Patches, and we just took in him and 6 of his friends. Someone contacted us and said that after she bought her home, she found out the previous owner had abandoned an unknown number of rabbits on the property, and wild predators were killing and injuring them. She and her family got 5 of them inside including Patches here, but many were too fast and skittish. Today, with the help of her family and 5 volunteers, we were able to wrangle 4 more. She has adopted 2, and we took in the rest for spay/neuter, healthcare, and hopefully some adoptions! Patches can't walk due to some sort of injury or illness, but the other six seem relatively healthy so far. The local municipal animal control had no resources for stray rabbits and only works with dogs and cats. That sort of thing is actually a part of how we came to exist to help fill the niche of saving pet rodents and rabbits. Do you know if your own county/city has the ability to help "exotic" pets? Do they need knowledge? Access to an exotics vet? Just more funding?
