The radio that started it all for me, the Zenith 8-S-463. Introduced in the fall of 1939, it became one of Zenith’s best selling consoles of the 1940 model year. Yes, it’s another iconic design by Robert Davol Budlong.
I grew up listening to one of these, pumping out the hits of 1964 and ‘65. I was about 5, and remember this was what I first heard things like “I’m Henry The Eighth, I Am”, “I’m Telling You Now” and all the early Motown on...that big boomy window-rattling Zenith bass made a lasting impression.
This one is beautiful, but needs to be completely rebuilt, electronically. It still makes for good eye candy.
