Moondog, Steve Reich, and Bob Weir, Brooklyn Academy of Music’s New Music America Gala, November 1989. Street poet-musician Moondog, blind since the age of 16, was frequently homeless in New York City in the late 60s when Philip Glass moved him into his apartment for a year. The two along with Steve Reich, would often rehearse together around then, after which he’d ‘drifted off to Europe’, few knowing his whereabouts, until this event at BAM in 1989, when he returned to NYC.
