So... as you may have noticed, I reblogged a lot of things for Kirby’s centiennial, but I barely scratched the man’s career. And I didn’t make my own post until this one, because there’s no way I can properly express how much Kirby means to me.
When I bought my first French Marvel comic in 1977, I was introduced-dragged, really-into Eternals #1 and Kirby’s world, and I never really got out. I was ten, and French publishers were lagging behind, publishing Kirby’s Silver and Bronze Age left and right. Kirby’s work made me a fan of US comics. A few years later I ended up writing for a zine called Kirby, and when I got my first home internet connection the first thing I did was joining Kirby-L.
And the more I learned about Kirby, the more I loved the man and his work. He wasn’t just the driving force behind the Marvel Universe with Stan. He made romance, crime, horror, monster comics. He was the most gifted storyteller. And he was an artist who just loved expressing himself via art and comics.
