With plummeting oil prices and an oil based economy, the Angolan currency has further lost its value, now with a street value of 350 kwanza (AOA) for one dollar (USD). The informal (street) value is now half of the official rate (itself well bellow last year’s value).

Street value

The significance of that picture is that the women are working on Nike SB dunks that are worth from 400-1000$ in street value.  On the table, are the Nike SB Dunk Supremes sought out by sneakerheads everywhere rivalling those of the notorious Nike SB Tiffanys.

What’s interesting is that these women, I’m assuming, don’t know those few pairs of shoes on the table are going to be worth a couple thousand.  They are probably thinking that these few pairs are just some regular old Nike Dunks.

Originally these would retail for under $100. (Estimate because I did not follow the Nike SB trend at the time they were released).  Now they are worth thousands due to how limited it is.  Basics of supply and demand.  The demand for this rare shoe is so high but the supply is so low.  Driving the prices up up and up.

 This goes to show how Nike’s marketing geniuses created enough hype for a shoe to be priced so much more than others in the same Nike Dunk SB line.  So interesting to note that these women are probably getting paid about 1/100(?) of what the shoe is going to be worth.
