A guide on a Faeries weaknesses, stregths, and magic.
Fae react to cold iron the same way a werewolf would react to silver. It burns and scars them and if trace amounts are ingested (for example through a water source), it would poison the Fae. It makes them incapable to do many things human take for granted. They can't drink tap water, they can't ride in cars, etcetera.
If bound in iron the Fae is incapable of using any of their abilities, even including their gift of Tongues. But iron is completely ineffective if enchanted.
They are allergic to salt, that if ingested can be fatal and touching it would be like us touching poison ivy. Their skin will inflame, swell and distort if they touch it.
Salt keeps Fae at bay due to their allergies to it, simply spreading it by the doorway would keep them at bay.
Fae is also a prideful race, demanding to be called the "fair" folk and primarily concerned with their own grand schemes.
They can't tell lies and related to that is that if they goes into a deal the Fair Folk will uphold their end of it, though they respect only the deal itself. God help you if you fail your end of the deal - and god help you even if you don't!
A Fae also can't enter a home without an invitation, but as with deals they can abuse loopholes if they find any.
They hate the sound of ringing of church bells enough to cover their airs and trying to tell the sounds to shut up. Fae are also fascinated to the point of distraction with human music.
As for strengths…
Faerie won’t die of anything less than iron or salt, and they have often practiced the art of fighting for at least a hundred years more than you.
All Faerie can use Glamour, a sort of Illusion without the use of magic, which they can use to permanently glamour items and places. Fae can also see through existing Glamour of both their own and other Fae's doing.
They can channel magic, each of their senses are open to it.
They can see, smell, touch, taste, and hear magic at all times.
Yet they are incapable of using magic, save for their own Faerie magic. They can, however, tap into existing magic, so if any person, place or thing has been or is affected by magic, or can use it, the Fae can tap into that magic and use it however they please unless it runs out.
There is no limit on what a Fae can do with existing magic. Imagination and amount of magic available are the only limits. Though there is a limit how much magic they can handle.
Faerie also have an ability to mark a human or humanoid creature as Faerie Friend or Faerie Foe as long as they belong to a Court. This mark is invisible to all but the Fae, and is not something they give lightly.
The mark of friend is given to those who does a great service to the Fae - such as saving their life. Other Fae to the Court won't bring the Faerie Friend any harm. Every Fae's mark is unique. Upon seeing a marked person, a Fae will know who marked them, their Court, why and when the mark was made, but Fae only respects marks made by their court.
A Faerie generally tries to master all their Faerie Magic, but it is in categories the magic comes.
There is their deceptive magic of illusion and emotional manipulation.
One branch of their magic allows them to control ones environment through telekinetic means. Those advanced in this art can also create solid illusions.
Another branch allows them to manipulate the forces of nature, from summoning the elements to communing with inanimate objects.
Similar to the mortal ability of precognition is a branch which allows a Fae to see short distances into the future. This can be used to discern the near fate of a person, place, or thing. Newer users will only be able to see up to a few days into the subject’s future. More advanced users may see as far as a month.
The last branch of Faerie magic deals with a fae’s ability to move through space, including teleporting from one place to another (within reason), shadowwalking, and moving on incredibly fast, silent feet.
