Strong cities Network

On September 29, 2015, the United Nations along with the United States, officially launched an international law enforcement coalition called the Strong Cities Network (SCN).

This new law enforcement initiative includes a global network of about 25 cities that want to come together and pool their resources to strengthen resilience against any form of “violent extremism.” Their goal is to stop and prevent any form of terrorism from happening in a member city.

But is it okay for these cities in the US to become apart of a new type of law enforcement that if implemented, would affect people’s lives directly with or without their consent/approval/vote? This new law enforcement collation would be controlled under the SCN, and not directly by the U.S. Government which makes me question their accountability and designated power.

What's the goal of DOJ's strong cities network?

Last week, with the endorsement of Attorney General Loretta Lynch, a group called the Strong Cities Network was launched at the United Nations.

According to its website, Strong Cities “aims to connect cities and other local authorities on an international basis, to enhance local level approaches to prevent violent extremism; including facilitating information sharing, mutual learning and creation of new and innovative local practices.”

Reportedly, the “network will conduct workshops and training, will offer online documents of best practices, and will offer grants for innovative initiatives. The U.S. State Department will provide funds through 2016, at which time charities are expected to take over funding.” A summit is scheduled to take place next spring in Paris.
