Some certain cats say I'm too loud! I say they're wrong! I'm just me. They don't have to go and get bothered by it. I'm enthusiastic and I appreciate life. A good fight, good food, and good fun. I don't go moping around and bemoaning my fate. Why should I, when I was chosen by destiny? All my littermates died, except for me. Clearly, fate knew only I was worthy to join this great tribe and make it greater still. As for that, I know someday I will defeat Sunfury and become commander myself. It's what the spirits have kept me alive for and blessed me with such might and powerful parents. It's not arrogance and pride if it's true. It's pure facts! And if you don't like them, too bad. It's really a shame that more tribe cats don't take after me. Then we'd never have to worry about anything! I'm the most loyal and devoted and determined cat in the tribe and I won't let a single thing hurt you. I'll tear it shreds! And of course I'll take extra good care of my mate, Nesting Owl. They're going to have kits! I'm going to be a parent! How cool is that? I'll be the best ever. I'll teach them everything I know. I bet they'll all be named Strong after me. Maybe they'll all look like me, too. So all you little pebbles just sit back and let me handle things. Trust me, the spirits aare on my side, and I'm going to work my tail off leading you to a bright and powerful future abd keeping us safe and protected from all harm. As soon as I can stop worrying about Nesting Owl and if the kits will be alright anyway...

Strong Oak Lefevre from the New England Learning Center for Women in Transition describes the community-based prevention work of Visioning Bear Circle to prevent sexual violence in Native American communities. This program was featured in the 2011 report Innovations in Prevention from the  National Sexual Violence Resource Center.

About: Recording of an interview with Strong Oak Lefevre who operates a culturally sensitive sexual violence prevention program for Native American communities in Western Massachusetts. Major components of the BEAR Circle program are the program is community-driven with consensus decision-making, community outreach, use of storytelling as a primary prevention technique that targets several generations (toddlers through elders), training community members so they can in turn train the community, and with a focus on healing for EVERYONE involved with sexual violence (including perpetrators) so everyone can stay in the community if possible to prevent rifts within the community. Application for INENAS Project:  The BEAR Circle program is an excellent learning tool for us to use when developing our program. We could model our program after this one but tweak it so it is representative of tribal communities in our service area.
