Etymology (see: Wiktionary): from Latin avis (“bird”) + strūthiō (“ostrich”), from Ancient Greek στρουθίων (strouthíōn), or shortened from strūthiocamēlus, from Ancient Greek στρουθιοκάμηλος (strouthiokámēlos), from στρουθός (strouthós, “sparrow”) + κάμηλος (kámēlos, “camel”).
So in Polish it's "struś", so basically only the sparrow part lol
ostriches are just big sparrows
(actually saw the cutest sparrow the other day, came up for the paluszki i was eating; and i was out with my friend from France that day and learned that an argot for palettes is sth like paluszki)
