It could be said that Deathmask and Aphrodite originately associated for purely strategic reasons.
A one shot I wrote about the start of Deathmask and Aphrodite’s friendship (which is, in my headcanon, pretty epic). It’s...actually mostly compatible with the Times Between Us series, which you most likely saw me mention recently, but it’s not a part of it because I’m not sure where I want to go wrt the Saints’ childhoods in this series yet.

Athena's Saints were, for all intents and purpose, children when the war Started, with the oldest among them only a few years over twenty.
In the face of what they lived through who, really could think coming back to life would erase the Gold Saints' issues? But maybe, just maybe, there's a chance that Aphrodite and Shaka's disappearance will stir things up enough that they might end up finally changing for the better.
Actually a reimagining/reformatting of an abandoned fic concept, Times Between Us disregards a lot of the minutiae of canon. Mostly, I took the concept of the Sanctuary and ran with it. ostly centered around the character of Aphrodite, although The Green Teacup (which, lbh, I’m still pretty satisfied with) is written from Deathmask’s POV.
