Stuart Griffiths - Talk
Stuart Griffiths gave a life account on how he moved from army to photography, how his old images of rave culture that he attended and an army party scene that wasn't otherwise documented and now how he has worked vastly across the world documenting with photography. The constant momentum of his work made his life so fascinating to me. He has an eye for untold stories and a fearlessness, especially in terms of war photography, which makes such beautiful work. Although he was recounting his life, he wasn't overly reflective and analytical but just explained as it was. I saw comparisons in his life and some that he made clear such as, when he was living in a homeless shelter and taking portraits of the men around him by day, then by night working as a paparazzi, photographing the rich and famous leaving cars.
His early work which to him at the time was just photographing friends and parties is now being looked at more critically due to his current serious work and he has now published books of this early amateur photography called Pigs’ Disco.
