Guys Who Talk About Ceilings...
Look, I like a safe place to sleep at night, but that doesn’t mean I need to talk about ceilings every single day of my life.
Or does it?
I have chosen to lay back on my love seat and examine the ceiling in my GTA home. Ceilings may be an often overlooked aspect of our homes, but they offer valuable insurance against a variety of intrusive enemies and forces.
About My Ceiling
My ceiling has a swooshing swirling stucco texture. It actually isn’t half bad. I have heard murmurs of people who really dislike stucco and stipple ceiling textures.
From what I see, I can’t really get on board. My textured ceiling is light enough that perhaps it doesn’t violently stand out like some of my neighbors home may.
Looking at OPC, Other People’s Ceilings
Upon reflection, I have seen some NASTY popcorn ceilings. You know, the type where it’s almost a jagged rock like formation descending from the ceiling. If that were what I had to stare at in moments like these, I think I could then be convinced to hire one of these fancy popcorn ceiling removal companies.
Across the GTA, including Richmond Hill, Aurora, Markham and more, it sounds like people are REALLY getting tired of their day dreams being interrupted by fractured and diminished lighting conditions, and dust capturing valleys of plaster and stucco.
Why did Popcorn Ceiling Happen? What Were They Thinking?
We’re all aware that popcorn ceiling was a cost cutting measure to finish homes faster once upon a time. But this old school efficiency is now costing homeowners time and money... Sometimes even costing quality of life!
It’s so bad, people even blog about it (more than just me):

Popcorn and stucco ceiling is associated with the risk of asbestos and reduced lighting... Yes, less natural light can affect your health - See melatonin levels and sleep cycles. It all matters!
Also, the jagged texture could act as a breeding ground for bugs and dust... Both of which can make you feel really unwelcome in your own home.
Lucky Living with Textured Ceilings Instead (Less Bumpy!)
I suppose I am quite blessed that the local Toronto home builders who took care of this home back in 1971 made a good future-proofed call. The gentle texture doesn’t reduce lighting as seen in some of the more dramatic situations. It also does not provide any more of a safe space to spiders than a flat ceiling would.
Popcorn ceiling is much more of an enemy that this textured ceiling, so for that I am glad. However, after some reflection, I can now see other’s homes with a new side of empathy, and respect their wishes to hire one of the many ceiling repair contractors who specialize in stucco ceiling removal!
Great companies such as Ceiling Champions out of Etobicoke, and Smooth Ceiling based in Richmond Hill.
Thanks guys, I’ll tell the world!
