Can't stand that post about how bad Americans supposedly are at geography. A lot of people from different countries have poor geographic knowledge and this can have so many different causes. Also, it's very unlikely that all the people reblogging that post do have perfect geography and can name every single country out there. I definitely can't?
yeah, it’s never really been a big deal to me either ? like if you don’t know where a country is, just look it up. it’s not some crime against humanity, please ... but then again this is the site where we have ‘omg i can’t believe you guys aren’t talking about this’ type posts weekly. ;-]
pooh!! what's your favorite idiom?
‘to butter someone up’!
my french friend said it funnily once: “Pooh ... i don’t mean to put butter on you .. but you’re so smart”
the thought of being drenched in butter still makes me cackle.
언니 안뇽!! what are some tips for a baby studyblr pls >< how do you choose what to post & not let the posting over influence how you do work? do you set goals on how often you post? do you think having a studyblr helps with self-discipline? how easy do you find connecting to other bloggers in this community? and any other things you think are relevant :) thanks!!
hi michelle <3 (one of my fav people made a studyblr ,, success!) -- i’ve practiced korean (and failed) with her .. icon.
what to post: this would depend on the goals you have for your blog! for me, i want to give those interested in linguistics a firsthand look at how this side of academia operates! there aren’t many linguistic studyblrs out here, so that’s my main drive. // additionally, this blog is an academic journal for me. // so, i post anything that fits within those objectives .... plus other things that i enjoy.
what not to post: anything that doesn’t fit those two objectives / doesn’t strike my fancy. i don’t post too much about my non-academic life either due to wanting to keep this blog up as i continue into my next program (and onward).
posting goals: i’m actually about to alter my ‘schedule’ again, as i usually post every day during the semester. i’m trying to slide away from #studyspo and focus on more original linguistics content now, so your original purpose for having a blog will dictate the posts as well! the speed doesn’t matter as long as the quality is good. :-]
studyblr + self-discipline: i wouldn’t say that studyblrs help with s-d. you definitely have to commit to them, but that discipline is something you have to work on away from your blog! it’ll become routine after a while, but it’s not guaranteed just because you have a studyblr! [shameless unlinked plug to the posts in my FAQ for help with that]
community: just say hello! truly just say hello! the #studyblr, #new studyblr, #langblr, and #[insert language] tags are good places to start finding people (and tagging your own posts to make them easy to find). a fair amount of blogs have secondary interests, and things like tag games are good conversation starters. :-]
