Student Reflection Examples

Students were honest about their level of understanding.

This prompted me to review previous discussion topics and relate them to current assignments as the semester progressed.

Students also enjoy writing/composing using different modes. They tend to view it as fun and creative.

Student Example

I chose to do the documentary because I thought it was pretty easy to do. I feel like I was able to put a bit of my personality in the video, like humor. The video consists of valuable information that helps explain my semester topic, along with different solutions and tips. My resources were hard to find because most of them had repetitive information or some of them were arguments between professionals and it was a bit hard to understand which one was correct

I did watch many youtube videos and I used the links from the power points that were given to us, to have an idea on how to make my video. I think the most complicated part about it all was trying to record my voice and upload it to iMovie, after a couple of tries I got the hang of it, but I really did not like it.

I felt like my creative side got woken and shaken up a bit with this new trial I faced.

For this paper I decided that I would use two videos from YouTube that expressed how owners from business in Texas feel about the open carry gun laws and the other one was the gun violence law speech that President Obama gave and a Twitter post as part of my sources since it’s where people express their opinions more openly.

Week 13

I began putting the documentary together using mini clips of what the issue is from voices, or people they had seen before. This way the issue jumped up to them for they knew people that were advocating the issue. (Emma watson and Beyonce ) then I bring things home with interviews I conducted and the male perspective to gender inequality. I have found myself using a lot of pathos in my documentary, a lot of emotions. I am advocating for gender equality in the workplace with a male perspective in mind. Which is why I begin presenting the issue as it stands, then transition as to what the male benefits would be and why males should stop resisting and grant the equality.

The way that meaning is made using the conventions of the particular medium and type of media product. A broader category allowing cands to write about elements of semiotics, genre, narrative, design, structure, codes and conventions, time and space, aesthetics, spoken, written and v isual language to name just a few examples. To give one specific example, the use of continuity editing in a film sequence.
