After Raclette Mood :)
1st and 2nd year student rep elections!
Now that Dr. Rosen, chair of SSLC, is back from sabbatical he has called for elections for 1st and 2nd year student reps. We have had fantastic representation so far, and current reps are more than welcome to stand again, but we want to give those who haven't had the opportunity to represent their peers a chance to run as well. Holding elections now for years 1 and 2 now will enable representatives to hold their roles over the coming summer, thus facilitating transitions into the next academic year, including organizing fresher orientation.
Those who wish to stand for election should, by Feb 14 at 1pm email [email protected] with [email protected] on copy, with their manifestos of no more than 200 words about how they plan to improve the lives of fellow Liberal Arts students as representatives. Candidates should also include their full name, photo, year, and major. Fred and Megha will collect manifestos, divided by candidates for each year, and post them on the Liberal Arts blog at http://liberalartsatkcl.tumblr.com and share the same on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/362011537150897/?fref=ts
The vote will take place at 6pm on Thursday, Feb 18 at the Liberal Arts Society Meeting in the Common Room on floor 7 of the Virginia Woolf Building. Each candidate will have 3 minutes to add oral arguments to their manifesto, making their case for election as student rep. Votes will be cast in person by secret ballot (writing the name of the candidate on a piece of paper and putting it into a box). The votes will be counted by a staff member present and announced on the spot. The people with the two largest numbers of votes per year will be elected.
Congratulations, Lambda Sigma Honor Society!
Congratulations on being selected to Lambda Sigma Honor Society as well as being elected President at your respective chapter. With that being said, get excited because you are in for a treat! Each of you will get the opportunity to work with your chapters to promote them on your campus and in the community.
Not to mention, you will get the opportunity to get to know other presidents from different chapters from around the country at the 2014 Presidents Conference at Auburn University from September 19-21, 2014. Here, you will learn about the organization from a national and local perspective. In addition, you will get the opportunity to learn about ideas for community service, fundraising and endless networking opportunities to bring back to your chapter.
Don't be afraid! We will keep you up-to-date with everything you will need to know for the President's Conference, leadership tips and ideas throughout the year and reminders about chapter deadlines.
By the way, we didn't introduce ourselves! We currently serve as student representatives on the National Board for Lambda Sigma. My name is Marybeth Bond. I'm in my third year, studying theatre at Ferrum College, the Alpha Phi chapter. Also, my counterpart, Wilton Jackson is in his final year, studying broadcast journalism at the University of Southern Mississippi, the Alpha Delta chapter.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to let us know. This will be our way of communicating with each of you about these issues. We are more than welcome to help!
Sincerely,
Wilton Jackson
The voting for the student course reps ends tomorrow and I should find out whether I have won or not. I really really hope i have. FINGERS CROSSED!
