Making a bank account

One of the priorities I had after arriving in the US was to get a bank account. Since the University of Utah (U) has Wells Fargo bank services available (ATMs on campus and a branch nearby) I decided to make an account with that bank. 

For international students, you need:

- Passport

- Student ID (I was able to use my IGC ID, because I haven’t received my ID Utah ID yet)

The process is really simple and one branch in the downtown area is open on Saturdays as well (most of the banks close during weekends).

You will need to make a first deposit of $25 dollars or more on the spot when creating your account.  The nearby branches that opens on Saturdays are (the ones I went to): Wells Fargo First Security 79 S Main ST, SLC, UT, 84111 &  235 S 1300 E, SLC, UT, 84102 (closest to the school)

No ‘no fee checking’ at BOA

As a student, I had a terrible experience banking with Bank of America. I heard from many fellow students who had similar experiences. The main issue was that despite the banks promise of "no fee checking for students" I was deducted ten dollars every month consistently. 

So, every month I would call and regain that ten dollars, however after only six months with the bank, I had had enough and closed out my account.
