Flying South for the Winter?
It may not feel like it here in New Orleans, but winter has hit the country and birds have been making their way south for the winter. Loyola New Orleans’ digital archives include lithographic prints by 20th century zoologist John Gould, and reveal some of the various birds we might see in places all over the country.
From beautifully detailed drawings of owls to violent portrayals of the more predatory birds, this incredible collection is not one to miss.

Easter in the Maroon
Loyola University’s online archives include digitized copies of the school’s newspaper, The Maroon, dating back to 1923! With Easter on its way, let’s look at some ads and articles from past April editions.
And a special April Fool’s edition, titled “The Moron”
Halloween is almost here, and, although we are experiencing some cooler temps, there is another type of chill in the air.
William Faulkner, author of classics such as The Sound and the Fury and Absalom, Absalom!, was also a prolific scary-story teller. The Ghosts of Rowan Oak, recounts the tales he told his niece, Dean Faulkner Wells. This volume is in Special Collections as part of the Patrick Samway, S.J. book collection, and is available to read in both French and English.
You can view these stories in Special Collections and Archives, located on the third floor of the Monroe Library, M-Th 9am-12pm/1pm-4:30pm, and by appointment only on Fridays. The Booth-Bricker Reading Room is also open during these times, and is a great spot for quiet study.
It feels amazing after receiving such feedback.
