Bondies Battle in “Res Wars” -Aly Russo
Meet Bond’s four “Res War” teams: First we have our Building 11 residents making up A Block Pride. Building 12 proudly represents B Block Bandits. The North and South Towers come together as the Green Machine and the Accommodation Centre claims the title AC Red Devils. The four teams compete weekly for pride, bragging rights and cold-hard cash over the course of the semester, finishing off with a celebratory Res Dinner.
Week 8 brought an intense Scavenger Hunt to the mix of prior dodgeball, beach volleyball, trivia, ultimate frisbee and basketball competitions. Students were tasked to go about campus, crossing a variety of mostly funny orders off their lists. Each task was worth a certain number of points, the most bringing in 25 points for a staged marriage proposal between two team members, and the lowest finding as many Telstra phone boxes as possible around campus.

We got a few strange looks here and there, but then again, we’re so lucky to have so many fun and creative activities to do. It’s all within the game and enjoyment.” - A Block Pride
The inter-campus battle between resident areas allows Bondies to work together and share a bond over friendly competitions and dinner each week. Students living on campus can sign-up for Res Wars at the beginning of the semester during their Resident Welcome Session, at Club Sign-On Day, or if those two opportunities are missed, during the first Res Wars competition of the semester that takes place Week 2. New students pay a $20 fee, and returning students pay $10 to cover their t-shirt, entry and dinner costs.

As the end of the semester nears, Res Wars teams will have another chance to battle head-to-head in sports competitions before the final Oktoberfest-themed Res Dinner takes place the Thursday of Week 12, April 9, in the Princeton Room.
